Corresponde a las unidades 1M y 2M del levantamiento de la cuenca de la laguna Merín y comprende lomadas suaves y fuertes, localizadas entre las colinas cristalinas y la planicie alta de la región. Se distribuye al noreste del Dpto. de Lavalleja, centro-oeste del Departamento de Rocha y sur del Dpto. de Maldonado. El material madre es una lodolita limo arcillosa que recubre con espesores variables el basamento cristalino. El relieve es ondulado suave a ondulado, con interfluvios ligeramente convexos o aplanados y laderas ligeramente convexas con pendientes de alrededor del 2%. Los suelos dominantes son Brunosoles Subéutricos Lúvicos (Praderas Pardas) y Argisoles Subéutricos Melánicos Abrúpticos (Praderas Planosólicas), de color pardo oscuro, textura franca a franco limosa, fertilidad media y drenaje moderadamente bueno a algo imperfecto. Los Brunosoles ocupan las laderas ligeramente convexas, mientras que los Argisoles ocurren en las mismas posiciones o en los interfluvios ligeramente convexos. En los interfluvios aplanados a veces con ojos de agua, se localizan Planosoles Subéutricos Melánicos, de color pardo oscuro, textura franca y drenaje imperfecto. En forma accesoria, en las laderas más convexas se encuentran Vertisoles aunque en algunas regiones, como la existente en la Ruta 15 entre Lascano y Velázquez, estos suelos se encuentran en mayor proporción dentro de la asociación de suelos. El uso es predominantemente pastoril y de agricultura estival asociada. La vegetación es de pradera con predominio de especies de primavera y verano. Este grupo se corresponde con la unidad Alférez de la carta a escala 1:1.000.000 (D.S.F.). Indice de Productividad 131.

Comprende las colinas localizadas al sur de los Dptos. de Rocha y Maldonado, ocupando un área importante en los alrededores de la ciudad de Soca. El relieve es fuertemente ondulado con 4-8% de pendiente con interfluvios convexos y laderas extendidas con afloramientos rocosos muy escasos. Una característica saliente de esta unidad es la presencia de abundantes cárcavas que se extienden a través de las concavidades del relieve. Los suelos dominantes ocupan, dentro del paisaje, las laderas extendidas y son Argisoles Subéutricos Ócricos Típicos/Abrúpticos, de texturas francas, profundos, de drenaje moderadamente bueno a imperfecto y fertilidad media a baja (Praderas Pardas máximas). En las partes altas fuertemente convexas se desarrollan suelos de menor profundidad y Litosoles. El material madre está constituido por sedimentos limo arcillosos de poco espesor que recubren el basamento cristalino alterado. La vegetación es de pradera, predominantemente invernal, de tapiz denso y algo abierto. El uso actual es pastoril y parcialmente agrícola.
