The Edge – Apartment building in Carrasco, Montevideo

The Edge is the first Foster + Partners project in Uruguay: a building of just eight residences on Rambla Tomás Berreta, the final stretch of the Carrasco waterfront, facing the beach with open views of the Río de la Plata. It is developed by Betalba Capital with Montevideo firm Ponce de León Architects.

The building is organized around a glass-enclosed central courtyard, with a white concrete facade and floor-to-ceiling windows. Every residence runs the full depth of the building, with light and cross ventilation on both sides, and has 3-meter (10-foot) ceilings. There are two duplexes with private gardens, two single-level residences, three duplexes with private rooftop terraces and one triplex, from 261 to 502 m² (2,810 to 5,405 sq ft) of interior space and up to 1,052 m² (11,325 sq ft) including the garden.

Kitchens are by Bulthaup with Miele appliances, closets and dressing rooms by Poliform, floors are Porcelanosa porcelain and wood, and the faucets were designed by Foster + Partners. Private rooftop terraces include a kitchenette, bathroom, fire pit and hot tub, and the gardens feature signature landscaping with irrigation. Each residence comes with two parking spaces and a storage room. On the lower level, a wellness area offers an indoor heated pool, fitness center and sauna, and the building has 24-hour security.

Carrasco is one of Montevideo's classic residential neighborhoods, with Avenida Arocena as its main shopping street and Carrasco International Airport just minutes away.
