"El Ahora" is a property of 16 hectares
located in one of the most beautiful places in the entire world, the Sierras de
Maldonado area of Uruguay. The property is in a rural area but at the same time
is only 40 minutes from cosmopolitan Punta del Este.
It was designed to be “self-sufficient” and as such,
has an energy supply from 36 solar panels, a windmill, battery backup, a diesel
generator and is also connected to the electrical grid.
It sits on a natural aquifer, with water that seeps
directly out of the earth. It has a pond of 5 meters deep populated with
catfish, a stream that runs all year round, and indigenous forests with many species
of plants and animals. Water for the house is supplied from a well. The entire
property has fantastic flora and fauna, and it is a special place for bird
watching. It also has animals for food including cows, sheep, and chickens. The
chicken coop is divided into multiple areas to enable the cultivation of both
meat and eggs efficiently.
It has approximately 60 fruit trees between 8 and 15
years of age (orange, mandarin, grapefruit, pear, apple, plum, peach, fig,
olive, avocado, etc.). It has a vegetable garden and a root-cellar.
The main house has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms (one
in-suite with a sitting room and walk-in closet), an open living room, dining
room & kitchen with breakfast bar, office nook and barbeque.
Two German built wood burning stoves heat the house in
winter. In the kitchen there are two stoves for food preparation, one gas and
one utilizing wood. The master bedroom is all glass and provides spectacular
views of the natural landscapes and animal life. Adjacent to the master bedroom
is a Hot Springs spa. Terraces surround the house with ample space for dining
and entertainment. And there are no mosquitoes in summer.
In a magical place overlooking the stream that borders
the property there is a guest house. The stream has a swimming hole and a small
waterfall. The guest house is offered online and generates an income of
approximately us$1,000 per month and has a rating of 9.8 out of 10 on
Booking.com.
Adjacent to the main house there is a cinema/playroom
with wonderful views overlooking the pond and a large infinity edge swimming
pool that has a beautiful hard wood deck surrounding it.
This can also be used as another guest house as it has
a bathroom and space for a kitchenette.
Behind this structure is a covered area for parking up
to three cars.
The property also has a house for the caretaker with a
living/kitchen area, two bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. It has a large barn stocked
with the basic tools and equipment needed to operate the property including a
new John Deere tractor. Integrated into the barn is a laundry room and a room for
butchering meat. Additionally, the property has a Solar cooled food storage
area as well as a small maid quarters. It also has a craft/workshop structure
currently being used for pottery.
The main house has 190 square meters in living space
with an additional 130 square meters in terraces and a pool deck of 115 square
meters. Constructions (not including the terraces) total over 500 square meters
with many upgrades and renovations having been performed over the last 4 years.
The pool was renovated, and the deck replaced. New stoves were installed and
the appliances are all realatively new. All the structures have been recently
painted and are in excellent condition.
